Thrive2Survive is honored to facilitate The Sonya Foundation, a program dedicated to helping families in Clark County navigate the financial burden of memorializing loved ones lost to addiction, homelessness, or the profound challenges that often accompany both.
The Sonya Foundation was established in memory of our founder Charles's sister, Sonya, whose life was tragically cut short by addiction. Sonya was a beloved mother of four whose struggle began not with illicit substances, but with prescription pain medication prescribed following a routine medical procedure. What started as treatment for a minor condition evolved into dependency, eventually leading to heroin addiction and a battle that would ultimately claim her life.
Sonya's story is deeply personal to our organization, but it is also heartbreakingly familiar. Across our community, families continue to lose loved ones to substance use disorders and the hardships of homelessness. These losses often come suddenly, leaving families not only with overwhelming grief but also with unexpected financial responsibilities during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.
The Sonya Foundation exists to ensure that no family has to face those burdens alone. Through financial assistance for funeral expenses, burial costs, cremation services, and celebrations of life, the Foundation helps families honor their loved ones with the dignity, respect, and remembrance every person deserves.
Operating under the umbrella of Thrive2Survive, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving vulnerable and unhoused populations throughout Clark County, The Sonya Foundation is overseen by our Board of Directors, which carefully reviews all requests for assistance and allocates funding based on need and available resources.
In recent years, the Foundation has provided support to numerous families facing unimaginable loss. Each request represents a life that mattered, a family that is grieving, and a community member whose memory deserves to be honored. Unfortunately, the need continues to grow, and requests for assistance often exceed the funds currently available.
